If your child is having a really hard time, I provide them with a safe space where they don’t feel judged. And your child, whether angry, shut down or anxious, they need to know that I’m going to be warm, caring and accepting of them—no matter what.
We don’t sit down and discuss issues like adults do, I use an age appropriate therapy style that fits with where your child is at. That supportive space allows your child to feel safe enough to express what is bothering them. Whether it’s talking, drawing, or using props I use an approach that makes sense to them.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. and I utilize approaches such as Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Play Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Person-Centred, Narrative Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy.
Yes, I love working with young people. But I also have experience supporting a broad range of clients, made up of various age groups, backgrounds, and presenting concerns. And I’ve been helping others for sometime now. I started volunteering at the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba when I was 22 years old, and it was then that I discovered that I wanted to assist others, creating an affirming environment that encourages positive change.
I have Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.
